Speaking Spelling Bee App Reviews

I dont understand a word this guy is saying! I barely get one word right! I try to respell the words but i always get it wrong. FIX THIS PLEASE!

I cant see my letters when I type because the ad is hung too low, meanwhile theres a 1/2 inch gap between the top of the ad and the top of the screen. Seriously!?

The pronunciation of the words to be a little bit more clear.

Bottom line: this app is garbage. Try to find something else. I got this app for fun. I like to play games like this. However, if you are seriously trying to study for a spelling bee I think it would be terrible. The voice reading the words is NOT Siri. Siri is NOT reading the words unless you are running iOS 5. If she was reading the words this app would be amazing. As it is, this male robot voice mispronounces even the simplest of words. It isnt a real person. Just a computer sounding out the letters (this is English. If sounding out the letters was a viable solution then there would be no need for spelling bees, especially with higher level words). When you click "define" to try to determine what word he actually said, sometimes you can only pick out a few words that are intelligible. For example: the word I was supposed to spell was forage (which is somehow an "advanced" word). It sounded nothing like that word. Then when I clicked "define" all I could understand was "cow" and "food". I dont know about you but I dont think of the word forage when I think about cows and food. I think about grazing. I didnt even offer a guess since I was so lost. When I saw forage pop up (more than halfway hidden by the annoying ads) I was dumbfounded and decided to write this review. This is just one of MANY examples. Speaking of the ads. They arent just banners that might annoy some people (I dont mind those). They start off as banners "docked" at the top of the screen but after less than 30 seconds they slide down to obscure at least half of the word you are in the process of spelling out. Thats not so bad. You can hear the guy read the letters you hit. But if you get it wrong you have to guess how it was actually spelled. Not too difficult if you were close, but if you had no idea what he said to begin with, you may have no clue what the word was. This app is garbage. Paying the 99¢ to remove the ads wouldnt help since you cant understand him to begin with. If they ever updated it to have Siri say the words, I wouldnt even complain about the ads trying to force you to pay the people who made it.

As a former National Bee contestant with some nostalgia, I went straight for the advanced list and was pleasantly surprised at the variety. It got me a time or two, but to be fair, guessing an unfamiliar word (the whole fun of a game like this) is next to impossible with these pronunciations. The bigger problem, though, is that theyve shorted millennium its second n.

The guy voice cannot pronounce any words correctly!!!

Hard to understand. And the guy says the words as you type is annoying.

This app is truly amazing and simple. It served me as a study pal for my schools spelling bee. First time I participate... I won second place.

The app is great. Its a fantastic way to sharpen your spelling skills. However, I couldnt give it five stars, because the voice is hard to understand. If they fix that problem, it could "very well be" a perfect five star app.

Hard to understand. Doesnt properly spell what you speak back (adds spaces and counts it wrong.)

It has a bad voice though the words are good I dont like the part where when you backspace it backspaces the whole thing

I literally cant even press one button within this app. Its just a photograph and it doesnt work at all. Severely disappointed. Thanks anyway.

Gets stuck. Annoying. It should be a zero star. Please fix it before you put on the App Store.

I liked the app for it helped me practice my spelling bee words but the voice is sometimes hard to understand and it wont pronounce the word properly no matter how I fix the pronunciation or not :P So can you like...make a way for Siri to properly do it and maybe add a Competition option where we can search the words we need to memorize for an upcoming competition so I dont have to use up a whole week typing out over 100 words?

It sounds like the person is about to cry. Also the person doesnt speak clearly. For example: Khaki was pronounced Cocky Psalm-solemn Abeyant-abooent .....

im not sure who designed this app, but it would appear they didnt bother to learn how to pronounce the words themselves, nor listen to the execution of the app once it launched. I would think in this day and age, finding a bearable computer generated voice wouldnt be so difficult. It is positively painful listening to the pronunciation and having to sit through a shaky, depressed, computer generated voice in order to get to the next word. The lists are good, the idea is good, but the voice and pronunciation make it a farce.

Doesnt work in newer operating systems.

Its unfortunate, this app had so much potential. It had loads of great vocabulary words, sorted into different categories, yet I couldnt stand the pronouncer. The voice is very unclear, way too fast, and frankly not even understandable. Making it impossible to study or practice for a real spelling bee.

This app was great for helping me practice words, but I had a slight problem. The pronouncer didnt pronounce the words clearly or correctly. In one instance the word "leisure" was pronounced as "pleasure" for this reason I am not so impressed with the app and urge others not to waste their money or valuable electronic space on your device.
